Wait To Be Seated

Berlin, HAU 2 (Hebbel am Ufer)

2026

In Wait To Be Seated two feminist collectives, Sandbox Collective from Bangalore and She She Pop from Berlin, come together to explore the laws of hospitality.
“The Guest is Equal to God” or “The door is open, dear guest, please enter” are popular sayings in southern India. We cannot think of a comparable inviting proverb in German. Beyond such grand gestures, there is a dense network of rules and codes in diplomatic and transnational contexts in which hosts and guests can easily become entangled. These rules are not comprehensively written down anywhere; they are contradictory and change depending on the person, place, time and context. And still: a good host will master all of them! Who do these unwritten laws protect, and from what? What if gender, race, and colonial history are also sitting at the table? What can we demand of each other – and how do we say no?

Wait To Be Seated creates an exercise course of hospitality in a nowhere-anywhere setting with a dining table, red carpet and dance floor. We see two groups that initially stand on opposite sides, but slowly find ways to meet in the middle to open up a new horizon.

The premiere took place in Bangalore in November 2025, followed by a tour in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands in 2026.
